Chess Competition in Memory of Salman Suleymanov Held at “SABAH” Chess Academy
On August 17-18, with the support of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation, a rapid chess competition was held at the “SABAH” Academy, dedicated to the memory of the Honored USSR Chess Trainer Salman Suleymanov. The event brought together around 30 talented young chess players, including European and world champions, as well as this year's winners and prize recipients from the Azerbaijan Championship.
The opening ceremony featured remarks from notable figures in the chess community, including Farid Abbasov, Chairman of the Children's and Youth Commission of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation and International Grandmaster, along with Jahangir Agarakhimov, a member of the Federation's Executive Committee and International Grandmaster. They emphasized the significance of the tournament not only as a platform for nurturing the next generation of chess players but also as a tribute to the enduring legacy of the esteemed coach Salman Suleymanov.
